Weird Life Lessons I Learnt From THE GILMORE GIRLS

After a really long time, I dedicated many late night hours to finishing the entire season of the Gilmore Girls on Netflix. Now it makes me feel so sad that it’s over. Although, soon I will find a new show to gush about but Gilmore Girls has left a rare kind of impact on me. Gilmore girls is about an iconic single-mother and daughter duo and their lives. The two main Characters are Lorelai Gilmore, a single Mom who got pregnant when she was just 16. The show is about her and her daughter Rory Gilmore their story of growing up together more as best friends and less as mom-daughter. The show is extremely light-hearted, witty, chatty and explores issues of family, friendship and romance in the most endearingly real way possible. The series has also developed a secret interest in me to become a single Mom and raise a lovely girl.

Gilmore Girls has taught me some amazing yet weird life lessons that I am going to remember for life.

Take Time For Yourself

Amidst a crazy life with multiple priorities, sometimes it’s healthy to just unplug and spend some alone time especially if you are  feeling lost or feeling alone. Take the time to find out what you really need, because nobody knows how you truly feel  except you do. Spend sometime with yourself and try to know the YOU better than the world outside. I loved the fact how Lorelai and Rory gave each so much space even in the most difficult times. They believed that being alone and independent makes you only stronger

Keep Your Passions A Priority

We should always keep our passions prioritized over everything else and stick to what we know best. No matter what the designation or pay is, nothing can make you happier than doing what you love. In the series, the young girl Rory was struggling  to become a journalist and always wanted to work for the New York times. She was chasing a dream that was not entirely hers. Towards the end of the season, she was mad about how her career wasn’t taking off as planned and felt so lost and clueless. But soon Rory found her moment and knew that she was meant to be a writer and that she must write a book about her and her Mom.

There is no such thing as being Bored

Have you seen the amount of books that are hidden in each episode? Rory was obsessed about books. I always feel bad about not reading enough and worse consuming content that adds little value to my life. So, after this series, I have started investing more time in content with substance.

Sometimes you are more like your mother than you think

Yeah, it can be a shock to me too. I never thought that would happen. But all the things that I find annoying and funny about my Mom are also the things my friends find in me. When they tried explaining this behavior, I realized that’s my MOM. I not just look like her but I am like her.

Relationships With Women Are Hard

Even if you are best friends, sisters or mother and daughter, sometimes the hardest relationships to manage are the closest ones. Gilmore girls tells that no family is perfect and that maintaining relationships is a lot of work.

Go With The Flow in Life

One great lesson is life happens. There is no right time for pursuing your passions or falling in love. You have to make things happen and get out of the comfort zone. Take life as it comes and do not run away from an awkward situation that life brings to you. When you are breaking down, pick yourself up, keep going and embrace life with a little bit of mystery.

It’s Okay if You are a Girl Who Loves To Eat Junk Food

The Gilmore Girls is a lot about food too. From snack Pop-Tarts and pre-dinner tater tots, to late-night coffee and early morning bourbon, the Gilmore girls knew how to eat. They were always eating whether at Luke’s Diner or the Pancake World, or just ordered in some pizza or Chinese.
The Gilmore Girls are characters that I really look upto because they are real and flawed and yet lovable. I can tell that I have been GILMORED. It’s not just a show but a lifestyle. Watch it if you haven’t.
already.
